James Dean At His Best
This scene runs a little over 3 minutes without a break in the movie Giant. Notice him finger the money.
All East of Eden

This is my favorite scene from the movie, thank you for uploading it. I always look forward to watching it whenever I see the movie. The bunch of them are patronizing toward Dean’s character thinking him to be nothing more than white trash with little or no brains, man they found out fast how wrong they were.
Um… I can’t see it.
Of course it can be taught. It’s all in the actor’s preparation and knowing what’s going on in the scene…and loads of imagination and awareness…but most of all LISTENING and reacting to the other actors in the scene, to all of you non-actors wondering how it’s done
hmmm
wouldn’t say it’s his best scene, in fact i’m surprised by how little happened (or is that it?)
i was more impressed with him in east of eden to be honest.
@Barb51850 … You are so right. Body acting can’t be taught in acting school. It’s one of the things that made Jimmy Dean so fasinating to watch on the screen.
He’s mesmerizing. When he gets into a scene, whether it’s simplistic or really intense, he’s one of those actors who literally strikes me “dumb”, in that I eventually realize I’m watching him, completely slack-jawed and totally consumed by whatever he’s doing or saying. There are only about three actors who have ever had that effect on me, and he’s one of them.
apparently the wrangler on this movie is the one who suggested to Dean he use the rope in this shot. saw it in a documentary on Dean.
YES! I just watched the movie and was absolutely intrigued by Dean in this scene. The details and seeming casualty of his behavior – outstanding.
This is my favorite James Dean scene, including with the hand wave as he exits the door. Dean is the bench mark for acting excellence.
i love this scene,he was one of the greatest actors ever.long live james dean.
Awesome.
I don’t even remember what I said.
I completely agree.
I agree this scene is my favorite, wish you show his exit with the indian hand wave.
James Dean was a great actor!Congratulations for post this video
take a gander at the scene in east of eden where raymond massey refuses the money that dean has earned for him which was essentially improvised. if that scene doesn’t prove he was a genius there are about 10 more i could direct you to. i say this with respect to your opinion but please do try that one. elia kazan and john steinbeck both expressed their awe and that is saying alot.
I don’t get it. All he does is move around constantly so the attention stays on him. He is not Brando… this is a cult of personality. Look up the term ‘Social Proof’ and you’ll find a clue.
His talent is beyond words. I am in awe whenever I watch him. You are correct – that cannot be taught in acting school.
