The Dust Bowl – Okies, Kansas, California & Route 66

7

Educational video of the Dust Bowl of the 1920’s. Super to use in American History classes, but I use it with the Grapes of Wrath and Of Mice and Men. Photos are either freeware or from the Finney County Historical Museum in Kansas. … Dust Bowl Educational History Literature Grapes of Wrath Of Mice and Men John Steinbeck Kansas Garden City California 66

The song is disabled on my system so I can’t hear the audio portion. What is it and who recorded it, I wonder?

I’m reading “The Worst Hard Time” also. Guess that’s what draws us to these sites. Go read the book!

WOW! I love that song! Who does that? I’m currently reading “The Worst Hard Time: The Untold Story of Those Who Survived the Great American Dust Bowl” by Timothy Egan. It’s a fascinating book.

I’m interested that a lot of the onus in this is on the environmental effects resulting from bad farming practices and drought etc. However very little, if anything, is said about the banks’ role in forcing people off their land. I don’t know much about this, being European, and would be interested to know what others thoughts are on the subject.
